Columbia University Emergency Medical Service (CU EMS) is a student-operated, New York State-certified, Basic Life Support volunteer ambulance corps.

We provide prehospital emergency medical care, free of charge, to Columbia University's Morningside Heights Campus, and the surrounding area, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Originally known as CAVA (Columbia Area Volunteer Ambulance), we have been serving the Columbia Community since 1968. The corps currently hs approximately 45 active members and responds to over 800 emergency calls per year. Whether you are a Columbia affiliate or merely an interested web surfer, we hope you find this website informative and useful.

DEADLINE EXTENDED to APRIL 30th at MIDNIGHT!

CU-EMS SUMMER EMT-B TRAINING:

This summer's course will run from May 24th - August 16th, every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6pm-10pm at 179th Street and Broadway (just a few stops uptown on the 1 train).

If you are interested in getting a spot in the summer EMT course as a sponsored student, fill out an application and submit it to cava@columbia.edu by Monday April 30th at midnight.

If you would like to take the course unsponsored, just email emerprog@aol.com expressing your interest and the folks over at Emergency Care Programs (who runs our EMT-B course) will get back to you.

Attention applicants interested in membership in CU-EMS! We will be having two information sessions this week:
Tuesday, January 24th, at 9.00 p.m. in 503 Hamilton
Wednesday, January 25th, at 9.00 p.m. in 503 Hamilton

Attendance at one of these interview sessions is mandatory in order to sign up for an interview slot.
