Columbia University Emergency Medical Service (CU EMS) is a student-operated, New York State-certified, Basic Life Support volunteer ambulance corps.
We provide prehospital emergency medical care, free of charge, to Columbia University's Morningside Heights Campus, and the surrounding area, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Originally known as CAVA (Columbia Area Volunteer Ambulance), we have been serving the Columbia Community since 1968. The corps currently hs approximately 45 active members and responds to over 800 emergency calls per year. **UPDATE: We are sorry to report that as of September 3rd, 2010 there will be no Sponsorship option for the Fall 2010 EMT-Basic Certification Course.** If you are still interested in taking the course and paying full tuition, please e-mail let2109@columbia.edu by no later than Sunday, September 5th, 2010. CU-EMS will still be holding an EMT-Basic training course on the Columbia Morningside Campus this Fall, provided that we can enroll 15 students by Sunday, September 5th.The course is set to start on Monday, September 13th and will run from 6PM-10PM on most Mondays and Wednesdays, as well as from 9AM-5:30PM for 5 Sunday sessions. The State Written Exam will be administered at 6:30PM on Thursday, December 16th.
CU-EMS will be holding 2 information sessions during the first week of the Fall Semester. The information sessions will take place at 9PM on both Wednesday, September 8th and Thursday, September 9th, in Hamilton 517.
The Executive Board of Columbia University EMS will be present at both sessions to answer any questions you may have regarding the training course or probationary membership.
