Applying to Columbia University EMS
Membership is open to all Columbia University students and University affiliates. New members are accepted only at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.
Those interested in membership must attend the information session held during the first or second week of fall and spring semesters. At the information session, applicants can sign up for an interview or the EMT course*. After successful completion of a New York State EMT course and with a valid driver's license and CPR card, the applicant is eligible to apply to become a Probationary Member.
*For information on the on-campus EMT course and course sponsorship, visit our Become an EMT page.
At the Interview
Applicants should bring a completed CU-EMS membership application to their interview. After a review of the application, a brief practical examination, and an interview with the Executive Board, a qualified applicant will be granted Probationary Member status. The probationary period lasts a maximum of one semester, at which point the "Probie" is granted active membership.
