Applying to Columbia University EMS
Membership is open to all Columbia University students and University affilitaes. New members are accepted only at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.
After successful completion of a New York State EMT course and with a valid driver's license and CPR card, the applicant is eligible to apply to become a CAVA Probationary Member. Those interested in membership must attend the information session held during the first or second week of fall and spring semesters. At the information session, applicants sign up for an interview. Applicants should bring a completed CAVA membership application to their interview. Pending favorable review of the application, a brief practical examination, and an interview with the Executive Board, the qualified applicant will be granted probationary member status. The probationary period lasts a maximum of one semester, at which point the "Probie" is granted active membership.
